Chronic Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections often present as persistent respiratory issues, such as a long-lasting dry cough, wheezing, or fatigue, sometimes lasting weeks or months. While typically causing mild "walking pneumonia," these bacteria can cause long-term, chronic conditions, including asthma, COPD, CFS (ME), or joint issues. Diagnosis and treatment often require specific antibiotics (e.g., macrolides) and, in some cases, long-term care for lingering symptoms.
